App to Keep Mac from Sleeping

I was quite surprised to see that there were inquiries into the recommendations for customizing sleep behaviors for macOS, as apparently some of the third-party apps fell short. Back in the 2000s, I would have said Caffeine without a doubt. It had not seen major updates for a while until it’s under the new ownership. It’s still freely available, open source. True to their words, the new developers seem to focus primarily on the simplicity of Caffeine —that was the motto of the era.

The app I would recommend is Amphetamine, which is also freely available on Mac App Store. It’s a complete tool kit to customize manual sleep control, automatic triggers, appearance on the menu bar, and so on. You might have heard of the app due to Apple’s awkward attempt to remove the app from the App Store for its unfortunate naming back in 2021.

No doubt there are other options too, but I do want to emphasize this. There are free options, and not many apps can actually triumph against the simplicity of original Caffeine or the customizability of Amphetamine, especially when both apps are free. If I search for Caffeine on the Mac App Store, not only some of the apps are made to look shockingly similar to the original Caffeine, most of the apps are either paid or have subscriptions. Again, there are no reasons to use knockoffs if it doesn’t add anything of a value.
